Wie viele Köpfe soll der Drache tragen - oder : Wie mehrsprachig sind Schule und Gesellschaft in Luxemburg?
Abstract
Linguistic diversity is a fundamental feature of Luxembourgish society. Throughout its history Luxembourg has been shaped by the multilingual skills of its inhabitants and by its support for plurilingualism in language policy and practice. As a fundamental site of language contact, Luxembourg schools face a profound challenge. In the classroom language diversity exists not just as a plurality of languages, but as a complex and dynamic field of practice. In analysing the diversity of language practices at Luxembourgish schools, through the combination of language ecology and a metaphorical approach, we tend to show perspectives of sustainable development and harmonization for language education, at both the national and the international level.
