Abstract

This article examines the metaphorical shift in the conceptualization of debate within current discourses on argument culture (Streitkultur)—away from the popular metaphor argument is war toward the source domain of sport/game. The German publicly funded YouTube format 13 Fragen serves as a case study, analyzed both in its practice of and its discourse about debate. The analysis highlights how this reconceptualization reshapes the interpretive framework of dispute.
