Abstract
During the earthquake of the 27th of February 2010, the Mexican author Juan Villoro (* 1956) was staying in Santiago de Chile. He captured the events in a chronicle titled 8.8: El miedo en el espejo. Una crónica del terremoto en Chile. Due to its polyphone, strongly fragmented structure, the text reproduces an experience, deprived of the act of explanation. Multiple voices construct the traumatic incident in a collage-like manner. Instead of offering closure, they emphasize the impossibility to represent the perceived horror in its entirety.
