Krankheits- und Gesundheitsmetaphern in medizinischen Lehrtexten
ein diachroner Umriss
Abstract
The aim of this study is to diachronically outline the metaphorical conceptualisation of Health and Disease in selected medical textbooks starting from the 13th century until today. The following research questions will be addressed: What images serve as source domains to conceptualise Disease and Health? Do they diachronically and / or synchronically change? Are those conceptualisations linked to a holistic perspective on the body or do they relate to specific organs? The study moves from the theoretical and methodological background developed in conceptual metaphor studies to focussing on their function especially in medicine: Those assumptions will be addressed in the first chapter. A selection of particularly relevant examples will be presented in the second part. The necessarily preliminary conclusions drawn from the study will be summarised in the final section of the paper.
