Kriegsmetaphorik in der politischen Berichterstattung deutscher und französischer Tageszeitungen

Abstract

War as metaphor represents a vital and productive source domain for the discourse on politics. The present paper analyses the use of war metaphors in German and French newspapers based on a corpus taken from electronic versions of Le Monde and die tageszeitung. Firstly, emphasis is put on an empirical proof of Weinrich’s convergence hypothesis for German and French in order to show its advantages and limits while, secondly, the ideological and manipulative aspects of war metaphors are revealed.
