Abstract

In Peru, comics and cartoons address also ecological crises and aspects of sustainability and, more than in the Global North, discuss issues of environmental justice and related social participation. At the same time, and with critical references to national symbolism and historically grounded perceptions of the natural habitat, they question dominant neoliberal models of economic development, which rely primarily on the extractivist exploitation of natural resources, and visualize more sustainable alternatives.
