Vulnerabilitäten, Resilienzen und Raum: Die Umweltstruktur von Bakonyszentlászló/Ungarn
Abstract
While there exists broad agreement in the scientific community on the causes and risks of climate change, the general public’s knowledge and perception of it varies widely. In reference to Thorsten Heimann, collectively shared perceptions, knowledge, and practices regarding one’s climate change related vulnerability and resilience can be called a ‘climate culture’.
Choosing an ethnographic approach, we focus on the case of the west-hungarian town Bakonyszentlászló in order to trace how one specific community constructs its own climate culture and which aspects constitute it. This paper gives insight into our research project as well as our main findings and conclusions. Drawing from our study, we emphasize the importance of considering a community’s own knowledge and perceptions as well as its historical, political, cultural, and geographic context to fully grasp their specific vulnerability and resilience regarding climate change and its consequences.
