Abstract

The educator Johann Christoph Friedrich GutsMuths (1759-1839) is best known for his contributions to physical education. However, geography was one of his favorite subjects, as experienced by his famous student Carl Ritter. GutsMuths also wrote extensively on the subject. His first geography book, titled Zusammenkünfte am Atlas (Meetings at the Atlas), showcases his instinct for child-centered dialogues, the selection of engaging examples, and the inclusion of a wide range of subject matter
