Abstract

Artificial intelligence has been a topic in the digitalisation of teaching and university teaching not just since ChatGPT, but it has brought its relevance to the fore and made it public. New teaching and learning settings with artificial intelligence are spreading rapidly. A digital learning assistant (chatbot) based on artificial intelligence (AI) is being developed at the University of Hohenheim/Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences so that students can answer questions about lectures and prepare for exams online. The project at the University of Teacher Education St.Gallen PHSG is adapting this chatbot to the economic geography lecture. In the spirit of conversational learning, it helps students to process the lecture content, learn independently and test themselves. For good reasons, the project is not investigating its effectiveness but is designed as a development project in university teaching and explores the students‘ learning experiences with the digital learning assistant. Geomedia are rightly at the heart of digitalisation in geography teaching, but AI - especially in geography education - must also become the subject of research and development. The project is a first step for geography education at the PHSG.
